ABOUT VILLAGE RADIO
Village Radio is a community-centered, nonprofit radio station based in Elk Rapids, Michigan, and operated as a division of the Chalfonte Foundation. Broadcasting on 99.7 FM and streaming worldwide, Village Radio serves as a platform for arts, culture, education, and storytelling, amplifying voices across generations and geographies. Rooted in northern Michigan and deeply connected to Detroit’s rich creative ecosystem, the station bridges rural and urban communities through music, dialogue, and shared cultural experiences.
Village Radio’s programming celebrates the diversity that defines Michigan—from local news, interviews, and youth-led shows to curated music programs spanning Michigan artists, Detroit’s musical legacy, world music, radio drama, and film-related storytelling. With a strong emphasis on youth education and intergenerational collaboration, Village Radio provides hands-on media training and broadcast opportunities that empower young people, artists, and community members to take the mic and shape the narrative.
Housed within the Chalfonte Theatre at the Elk Rapids Cinema, Village Radio is part of a broader vision to create a vibrant cultural hub that integrates cinema, radio, live performance, and digital media. Through inclusive programming, positive storytelling, and multi-platform broadcasting, Village Radio fosters connection, creativity, and civic engagement—bringing communities together through sound.
